A sword is a long-edged piece of metal, used as a cutting and/or thrusting bat in multifarious civilizations throughout the world. The talk sword comes from the Old English sweord, which cognates to Ancient High German swert, Inner Dutch swaert, Broken Down Norse sverð (cp. modernistic Scandinavian sværd/sverd/svärd: Danish sværd, Norwegian sverd, Swedish svärd) Experienced Frisian and Old Saxon swerd and Fresh Dutch zwaard, from a Proto-Indo-European root *swer- "to wound, to hurt".
A sword fundamentally consists of a blade, a hilt, and a pommel, on average with alone or two edges for striking and cutting, and a point for thrusting. The essential intent and physics of swordsmanship dead duck remained sort of connected down the centuries, but the actual techniques varied among cultures and periods as a consequence of the differences in blade design and purpose. The names given to many swords in mythology, literature, and antiquity reflect the elevated prestige of the weapon (see ballot of swords).
